install netbeans 6.7.1 on ubuntu 9.10

1. install JDK via apt

# sudo apt-get install sun-java6-jdk

2. test your new JDK

# java -version

test java version

3. download


4. you can calculate md5 checksum and compare the value with one from the NetBeans’ website

# md5sum

5. make downloaded archive executable

# chmod +x

6. execute it

# ./

install netbeans

7. choose your netbeans setup

9. update files


10. finish

  1. hi, i am trying to install netbeans on ubuntu.
    but the first step of even checking the version of jdk is not working. for me. This is how it show.

    root@emma-laptop:/home/emmaddai# java -version
    The program ‘java’ can be found in the following packages:
    * gcj-4.4-jre-headless
    * openjdk-6-jre-headless
    * cacao
    * gij-4.3
    * jamvm
    * kaffe
    Try: apt-get install
    java: command not found
    root@emma-laptop:/home/emmaddai# sudo apt-get install sun-java6-jdk
    Reading package lists… Done
    Building dependency tree
    Reading state information… Done
    E: Couldn’t find package sun-java6-jdk

    Please helpme

  3. Just follow these steps to install jdk on your machine.

    1. download manually jdk file
    note: use jdk-6u18-linux-i586.bin

    2. make it executable file:
    $ chmod +x jdk-66u18-linux-i586.bin

    3. install
    $ ./jdk-66u18-linux-i586.bin

    4. finish installation process

    5. automate jdk on your machine
    follow these step:

    6. finish

    7. check your java version
    $ java -version
